Mixing formula; 2 ounces of 5N (level 5, base Neutral) and 1 ounce of 5G (level 5, base Gold), mixed with 3 ounces of Hydrogen Peroxide (20 volume H2O2 for equal lift and deposit). We mixed more neutral, because it covers gray, and the desired color was brown, and 5N has brown in it. Gold was to make the color more rich. Neutral also cancels red, and the client's natural hair (the dark parts, not the gray parts) has a lot of red pigment. Procedure: apply on the roots and wait for 35 minutes; strand test for color development; add soap to the leftover haircolor and apply it to the mid-shaft and the porous ends; wait for 5 minutes or until the color will match with the roots); wash with warm water; towel blot the hair, and enjoy your haircolor. DO NOT APPLY THE COLOR ON THE ENTIRE HAIR AT THE BEGINNING; apply on re-growth first for 35 minutes, then the ends. This is the most common mistake with non-hairdressers; women who would like to save some money by doing their haircolor by themselves. They apply the color all over the hair and then get dark ends, and then come to the hairdresser to fix it and end up paying more money. HAIRCOLOR OVER HAIRCOLOR GOES DARKER. So, if you overlap, you will get darker results. Another thing about the neutral; it is absolutely necessary when doing retouch; the mixing ration depends on the amount of gray in the hair; if the client has 50% gray, then 50% of the haircolor mixture has to be neutral of the same level of the desired haircolor (the other half; could be gold, red, any color). This is a how-to color video for cosmetologists, barbers, hairdressers, beauty school students, salon educators and professionals, and for non-professionals, also for women who like to save money by coloring their hair by themselves; LEARN THE RIGHT WAY TO DO YOUR RETOCH. That can be really helpful not just for those who are going for their cosmetology license renewal but for those who would want to do it themselves at home. Of course, my suggestion always is that they make the professionals do it instead.
