Cosmetology State Board Test Has Been Changed

Attention Cosmetology Students

VERBAL INSTRUCTIONS

The Cosmetology Test has many changes. From now on applicants do not get written instructions during the test; the examiner gives verbal instructions in English. Knowledge and clear understanding of English language is necessary for foreign students and applicants to pass the  Cosmetology State Board Exam. Most of the time the same procedure is asked to be performed for all the students in one examination room, except eyebrow waxing.
The examiner will read the instructions for each procedure, and will state the state requirements for that procedure. She will tell you what they are looking for, and will give you time to set up the station; usually it is 2 minutes time. Then she will tell you to "begin." Do not begin before she asks you to.

Your Model

The model has to be treated the same for all the state board exams, except for the facial/eyebrows and the manicuring. This means that you do not have to set up a new SMA each time and do not need to re-drape the client. Of course, for chemical procedures, which would be back to back, you need to have 2 towels and a plastic drape. So, only that time you'll double drape the model. The model needs to have a valid state issued ID, shoulder length hair (preferable), nails with free edge (to add the form underneath for sculptures nails), clear skin and eyebrows to remove for facial and brow wax procedures.

Hands

Hands could be washed like before, but, you also can use a hand sanitizer, like "Purell"

Procedures that have been removed and the new ones that were added

No more Fingerwaves and StateBoard Set, Soft Curl Permanent, Pedicure, Press and Curl, Facials with dermal lights, tips and wraps. Instead the State Board has added the Blow Dry and Curling Iron. They are already step-by-step videos of how to do those added procedures. Here are the links:

  1. This change is a good one for those who are planning to take their cosmetology license . It helps in promoting a universal language for everyone, making them fell consident and also learn how to speak English, which is primarily the language that everyone on the world uses. So I guess this is really a big help.
