You must:
- have patience
- be honest
- be reliable
- have a pleasant attitude
- treat people with respect
- have an ability to listen
- be eager to learn
- be open to suggestions
- look neat
- keep good hygiene
- wear comfortable shoes
Talk:
- about the client's hair, skin and nails
- necessary services and products
- about the next appointment
- about the client's needs as far as cosmetology goes
Don't:
- talk about your personal life
- gossip
- be late
- give promises that you cannot keep
- be greedy
Sounds easy? Print the guidelines and check them every day to see if you are a true professional.
Tip for the talk:
Write notes about your conversation, suggestions, prices, etc. in a computer or even on a client record card and review them before they come, so you can have positive recall of you recent conversation, events, etc. No, I am not crazy; if you have 50 clients, and you have suggested highlights and promised a free hair treatment or a product sample to one of your clients 2 months ago for the next time she showed up, you better remember it or simply review your notes. Might take a some time, but it is time well spent; you are working with people: a little mistake, and you might lose them to the next hairdresser who does remember her/his promises (or, perhaps, she/he takes notes?)
