Dos and Don'ts on the Day of Your State Board Exam for Cosmetology License

SOME IMPORTANT TIPS TO HELP YOU NOT TO MESS UP YOUR STATE BOARD EXAM

  • Get a good night's sleep on the night of the exam date; researchers have found that even a drunk person makes less mistakes than a person who did not get sufficient amount of sleep before any test. It also makes you nervous which would have a negative effect on your memory and finger dexterity. I will recommend going to bed around 9:00 PM, if not early, depending on the distance you are going to drive to state board facility; the appointed time of the test: it is usually early in the morning; whether you are to pick up your state board model; and if you are going to pick up the Kit you have rented.
  • Some students stay in a motel near state board for the night to not to worry about the distance and the driving time (that is; if you live far from the facility and the traffic is usually bad in the early morning)
  • Do not:
    • Start a diet on that day; if you have a habit of having a doughnut and coffee every morning: have it!  Your body is used to it, then, and you would think of your missing coffee instead of tint going darker procedure if your body needs the sugar and the coffee to function in the morning.
    • Quit smoking (if you are a smoker)
    • Forget to take your doctor prescribed medication (I had a student in training who forgot his insulin shot in the morning, and he had to stop his test after 2 hours; he told the examiner that he has to retake his test later. He passed the next time, though, but, this time he took his insulin shot before he left his house to take the test)
    • Start studying for the test a day before or spend long hours to review (you will overload your brain and it would not function in the morning) *You must be crazy to start studying a day before the test: it is too late, and you know it. The test preparation starts the first day of your school, believe me or not; you must build the memory layers periodically in your brain for a long time before the test to have a positive recall on the day of the test. Cramming does not work; you really have to study and review your material at least 5 times to have positive recall.
